BECOME a MEMBER
Eligibility for membership any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution. On the internet you can type in www.dar.org to access information.
Their ancestor is Benjamin Franklin and their lineage comes through his grandson Louis Bache named after the King of France Louie the XVI – husband of Marie Antoinette.
I am the Regent of Bucks County Chapter. They have programs that entertain as well as inform our members on many different topics. This year our 86th Charter Day Benefit Luncheon is on October 22 at Chefs on the Run in Chalfont and our guest speaker is Carl Closs a George Washington portrayer whose program is “Geo Wash the Theirth and the Reality and Martha Washington”. It will benefit a program called Paws for Patriots that provides guide dogs to blind and disabled soldier returning from Iraq and Afghanistan and in part the Coatesville VAMC. In November we have a joint program with the Independence Hall and the Gwynedd Chapters on the First Thanksgiving from the American Indians Perspective, etc.
As part of our mission to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism this week September 17 – 23 we celebrate the 223 anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution by the Constitutional Convention.
They are asked to adopt a classroom or school. I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to meet Andrew Johnson of Indian Valley Middle School last June 20 when I presented the DAR Good Citizenship Award to a deserving male and female student from the school. 8 students each were honored – I mentioned to him if his school would be interested in participating in celebrating Const Wk. He has coordinated this with his school – see list.
Chuck McIlliney our State Senator and Commissioner Diane Ellis-Marseglia
– have each issued Proclamations to recognize our efforts to celebrate Constitution Theyek.
As an aside - I’d also like to mention – as a volunteer of Grand View Hospitals “Recovery Room” Thrift shop – we are always looking for donations of clothing, shoes, handbags, furniture and household items as money raised help support the Auxiliaries programs to raise money to donate to Grand View Hospital.
