For the second year in a row, North Penn High School has met all proficiency targets on the standardized achievement tests known as PSSA’s.

The federal No Child Left Behind law sets the goals, and Assistant Superintendent of Schools Diane Holben says they get harder to reach every year.

“We try to keep up with that by having a system of improvement where we continuously review our data, identify areas of strength and opportunities for improvement, and really work together on strategies to improve student achievement.”

She says a good education goes beyond test scores.

“Particularly with secondary students we need to have an eye to what their career plans are and make sure that, in addition to having grade level proficiency, we push students beyond that so they will be successful in whatever their post-secondary endeavors are.”

Doctor Holben says North Penn High School has worked very hard to give struggling students extra help.  The elementary schools also met their overall proficiency targets, but Kulp and Inglewood missed the mark in a small number of sub-groups.
