A priest who lives in Lansdale and serves as pastor at a Blue Bell church has reached a settlement with Chestnut Hill College, which fired him last month as a part-time instructor.
In a statement released Monday by his publicist, Father James Saint George said they reached an agreement consistent with the religious beliefs of each party. The terms of the agreement have not been released, but the publicist says he will not be returning to teach at Chestnut Hill College. The Catholic college in Northwest Philadelphia, just over the Montgomery County line, issued a statement at the time saying he misrepresented himself as a priest. Father Saint George said he told school officials when they hired him that he was not a Roman Catholic, but an independent Catholic in a church not affiliated with the Vatican, Saint Miriam Catholic Apostolic Church in Blue Bell. The college statement also cited the fact that he is gay, which he did not deny, but he said he never talked about it in class.
