NP Middle School Students Win Problem-Solving Contest
“They’re given problems that they have to come up with solutions for, and there are different types of problems from building a vehicle to writing an original performance to creating a structure. My team decided to do a technical project this year that involved making things fly.”
She says they had to make six objects fly in six different ways, and one used magnetic levitation.
“One of our students did a lot of research into how to use magnets and figured out a way to make a small piece of graphite hover above a magnetic field created by magnets arranged in a certain pattern.”
Early says that one surprised the judges and earned extra points for creativity. She says placing first in the world finals is a rare achievement, and the five kids from Penndale Middle School and two from Pennbrook deserve a lot of credit.
