Montg Twp Community Center Plans Moving Forward
Plans for a Montgomery Township Community and Recreation Center are moving forward on two fronts, but they remain in the very early stages.
Township Manager Larry Gregan says the township engineer is doing a site survey and an architectural firm is looking at space needs. He says the architects are trying to determine several things.
“What type of a facility is appropriate for what it can support in terms of building and parking and access, and also what types of programming could be incorporated into the building. All those programming issues eventually relate to the kinds of fees that could be charged for membership and the types of programs that our recreation department could offer in the building.”
Gregan says they are looking at three options including one with a single basketball court and two others with two basketball courts. All three would have an exercise room and rooms for classes and other activities and the largest option, measuring about 60-thousand square feet, would have an indoor artificial-turf field for soccer and lacrosse.
The engineer is identifying property lines, grading changes and stormwater management improvements left over from a development that was started but not finished several years ago to see if they should be used or removed. The 13-acre site is at Stump and Horsham Roads, across from the Montgomery Township Municipal Building.
He says if the township supervisors decide to build it, they hope to have it finished in time for the Tricentennial in 2014.
