Federal Official Visits Montco
U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood Was in Montgomery County Thursday, pitching President Obama’s $50 billion infrastructure spending program. He said it would benefit the decaying Bridgeport Viaduct, which carries SEPTA’s Norristown High-Speed Line over the Schuylkill River. SEPTA General Manager Joe Casey said the 3,175-foot bridge, built in 1911, is rusting away, its concrete piers are cracking, and it faces closure if it’s not repaired soon. Standing in the shadow of the viaduct in Bridgeport, LaHood challenged congressional opponents to either support the president’s plan or come up with another way to pay for transportation projects.
