New Hanover Budget Calls For Police Layoff
The New Hanover Township Supervisors in Upper Montgomery County are balancing next year’s budget by laying off the newest police officer on their nine-member force.
The department has also been without a chief since Mike Dykie retired at the end of April after 32 years. Adding to the uncertainty is an ongoing study by a state agency on the feasibility of merging the New Hanover Police with the department in neighboring Douglass Township. The results of the study should be released in a few months.
