Warminster Budget Calls For Police Layoffs

dollarThe Warminster Township Supervisors have approved a preliminary budget that calls for laying off 17 employees, including eight police officers. The others are in the public works and parks and recreation departments.  Chief Michael Murphy says the total number of lost officers will really be eleven if you count three others who are resigning or retiring and will not be replaced.  He says shrinking the police department will not compromise public safety, but some proactive programs to help the police work better with the community will have to be eliminated.  Warminster’s $23.7 million spending plan also calls for a property tax hike that would cost the average homeowner about $130 more next year.
