Independent Congressional Candidate Running Against Big Government
Independent Jake Towne of Nazareth says he is running against Republican Congressman Charlie Dent and Democratic Mayor John Callahan of Bethlehem for the 15th Congressional District seat, even though the odds are against him, because an independent voice needs to be heard. He says both major parties support big government and big spending.
“They might disagree a little bit about how much they’re going to spend, but the fiscally conservative party, the Republicans, increased the size of government by 70 percent when they were in power, and Democrats have done the exact same, so I have to be very frustrated. What I call the whole system is a two-headed one-party system, and we really need to move toward taking a look at solutions instead of perpetuating endless debt and endless wars abroad.”
Towne says both parties supported the corporate bailouts, which started under the Bush Administration, and the federal government has been overreaching for a long time under both parties, doing too many things that should be left to state and local governments. The 15th district is partly in Montgomery County and partly in the Lehigh Valley. He appeared earlier this week on the WNPV talk program Comment Please by Univest.
