Matthews Eyes Harrisburg Job
Montgomery County Commissioner Jim Matthews says he would love to get a cabinet position in Harrisburg if State Attorney General and fellow Republican Tom Corbett is elected governor in November. But if that is not to be he plans to run for re-election next year, and he wants to put to rest the rumor that he might run as a Democrat.
“That is not the case. I cannot and would not, and I don’t mean this pejoratively against the Democrats, but I will not run as a Democrat. I am a Republican. Does that preclude running as an independent? No, but we’ll see what arises. That’s a long time from now, and I’m focused on getting Corbett elected right now. The general’s a good man and he will run a good government, and history has shown that Pennsylvania changes teams every two terms. It’s just history, so I think Corbett’s got the inside track.”
Matthews says he plans to hold a fundraiser for Corbett and he has offered his services as a surrogate speaker. He says he knows Corbett’s platform and issues and he would be glad to speak for him at any time.
