Convicted Lawyer Appeals to State Supreme Court
The 50-year-old Worcester resident pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and other offenses about a year ago. Prosecutor Robert James says he does not believe the state’s highest court will hear the appeal because the superior court has already affirmed his sentence.
The shooting happened on opening day of deer season in November of 2010 as the 52-year-old Groh dragged a deer along the Tohickon Creek near a Richland Township property that Manilla owned.
While this case appears to be wrapped up, it is not the end of his legal troubles. A federal grand jury is still investigating how Manilla managed to get numerous guns when he was not allowed to own any legally, and he faces a wrongful death civil lawsuit filed by Groh’s family.
