He said it breaks his heart to know that the families of two of his closest friends lost their sons because of what he did. The judge gave him four to eight years in state prison.
Authorities say he had a blood alcohol level about 1 1/2 times the legal limit for adult drivers, or 5 times the legal limit for minors. The crash, shortly before 1:30am on Saturday, August 6, 2011, killed Edward Coombs and Robert Nagel, both 19-year-old Hatboro-Horsham High School graduates.
Police say McNicholas, who was 19 at the time and is also a Hatboro-Horsham graduate, was driving about 100 miles per hour when he ran his Honda Civic off of Witmer Road near Norristown Road in Horsham, striking several trees. The teens had attended a party where they were drinking alcohol, and police found open bottles of rum and brandy at the crash scene.
