A jury has found an Upper Bucks County woman guilty of first degree murder for killing her husband. 51-year-old Dorleen Burklund had admitted shooting her husband Michael about eight times, including three times in the back while he was lying on the floor, one Sunday afternoon following one of many arguments at their home on Mink Road in the Kintnersville section of Springfield Township.

He was 47 years old at the time of the shooting in October of 2010.  Dorleen Burklund said she shot her husband in self-defense, but evidence presented at the trial, including her own call to 911, showed otherwise.  She had moved out of their home, but she unexpectedly hired a locksmith to open the locks while her United Airlines pilot husband was out of town and moved back in shortly before the killing.

First Assistant District Attorney Michelle Henry told jurors the murder was not only premeditated, but also well-planned.  While Burklund will not be formally sentenced until later, she will serve life in prison without parole.
