A Montgomery County judge has ruled that a Souderton man’s confession to police in the rape and beating death of a young girl can be used at his trial. 25-year-old James Troutman’s lawyer asked the judge to suppress his client’s statements on the grounds that his constitutional protections against self-incrimination and his right to legal counsel were violated.  In a ruling handed down Tuesday, Judge William Carpenter said the defendant’s statements were the result of good police work and did not violate his rights.  He is charged with first and second degree murder, kidnapping and rape of a child in the death of nine-year-old Skyler Kauffman.  She was abducted in May of last year after playing with friends in a parking lot outside the Souderton Gardens Apartments where she lived with her mother and grandmother.  Troutman lived in the same complex.
