Marine Indicted For Thefts

A U.S. Marine is accused of stealing aluminum helicopter landing pads and other metal items from the Willow Grove Naval Air Station and selling them as scrap metal. A federal grand jury indictment charges 28-year-old Sergeant Christopher Cook of Lakehurst, New Jersey with theft and destruction of government property.  The indictment says he stole about 60,000 pounds of metal from the base late last year and early this year and took it to scrap dealers in U-Haul Trucks.  The stolen items were worth about $760,000, but he allegedly sold them for about $51,000 and used the money to pay for personal expenses including travel, entertainment, restaurant meals, clothing and jewelry.
