Serious Crime on the Decline in Lansdale
Law enforcement officials in Lansdale are taking a bite out of crime. Police Chief Bob McDyre Wednesday night told borough council there was a 30% drop in Part One crime last year. Those are serious offenses like murder, rape, assault, robbery, auto theft and burglary. Chief McDyre says the police are getting the upper hand because of proactive measures like directive patrols. That's assigning manpower in the most troublesome areas at the right time based on statistics. The police are also keeping the heat up on drug dealers and making the owners of bars and taverns responsible for the impact they have on the community. Chief McDyre credits borough council for providing the police department with the funding it needs to put enough officers out on the street.
