DA Will Seek Death Penalty In Kauffman Murder Case

Souderton_GardenMontgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman says she will seek the death penalty for a Souderton man accused of raping and killing a young girl. She says it’s a brutal sexual assault and murder of a child, and she can’t think of any other case where the death penalty is more warranted.  24-year-old James Lee Troutman waived his right to a preliminary hearing Monday, appearing by videoconference before Magisterial District Judge Kenneth Deatelhauser.  He never left Montgomery County Prison, where he is being held without bail in solitary confinement, and his case now moves closer to trial.  The district court is across the street from the crime scene at the Souderton Gardens Apartments, where he and the victim both lived.  He allegedly lured nine-year-old Skyler Kauffman to a basement laundry and storage room, and then raped her and beat her to death earlier this month.
