Phone Recording Leads To Criminal Charge

pushbuttonA Bucks County man is accused of illegally recording a telephone conversation with a Quakertown employee. 27-year-old Nick Scott of Richland Township is charged with violating the state wiretap law for recording his conversation with Quakertown Public Works Director Joe Murgia about the condition of Panther Playground in Memorial Park, and then posting it on his Facebook page.  He says the playground, where his two-year-old daughter plays, is not safe.  He says it has splintered wood, exposed nails and jagged metal edges.  Borough Manager and Police Chief Scott McElree says he appreciates people calling the borough in a legitimate manner, but Scott’s actions amounted to cyber bullying or a smear campaign.  He says the playground is regularly inspected and maintained, and they are treating Scott’s concerns and the wiretap as separate issues.
