Hoeffel Says Release Police Report In Murder Case, Ferman Says No

wnpv_police_beatAn elected official is calling for the release of a Souderton Police report on an April encounter between a murder victim and her accused killer. 24-year-old James Lee Troutman is charged in the beating death of nine-year-old Skyler Kauffman.  The earlier encounter was between Kauffman and Troutman.  Both lived at the Souderton Garden Apartments, where she was raped and beaten to death in a basement laundry and storage area on Monday night.  He may or may not have made a sexually suggestive remark and locked the door on the victim and a friend when they went to his apartment in April to use the bathroom.  Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel says discrepancies between the police report and a document filed by the district attorney’s office need to be resolved.  DA Risa Ferman says the reports are not public records, and releasing them during a homicide investigation would be inappropriate under the rules of professional conduct for lawyers.

Meanwhile, members of the Souderton, Telford and Tylersport Volunteer Fire Companies will collect donations for the victim’s family Saturday, May 14, from 8:00am until 8:00pm at the Landis Supermarket in Telford.

Souderton Area School District officials will let students and teachers take Monday off to attend Skyler Kauffman's funeral. It starts at 11:00am monday morning at Calvary Church in Hilltown.
