Basement Pot Farm Found In Upper Montco
A Montgomery County man is accused of having a marijuana farm in his basement, using high-powered lamps to help the plants grow.
Police seized more than 30 plants, growing individually in buckets at the home of 32-year-old John Frederick on Hill Road in Douglass Township. Berks County sheriff’s deputies notified police Tuesday after finding evidence of the pot farm while serving a warrant on an unrelated domestic matter. Douglass Township Police say they find a few people who are growing three or four plants for their own use, but finding a large number of plants is unusual. They say the plants were mature, probably ready for harvest within a few weeks, and they may have been grown for drug dealing. They don’t have an estimate of the street value, but they say it’s in the thousands of dollars.
