A doctor accused of prescribing drugs for women in return for sex now faces a civil lawsuit stemming from an Upper Gwynedd Police sergeant’s suicide about three years ago. In the medical malpractice suit, James Pifer’s widow Rosa says Doctor Harris Newman, who lives in Lower Gwynedd and had a medical practice in Hilltown, recklessly and carelessly prescribed Xanax and sleeping pills with disregard for their combined effects, resulting in medication-induced anxiety, which led him to shoot and kill himself.  The suit says Newman was Pifer’s primary care physician.
