A Bucks County man has been convicted of torching a shopping center and destroying his place of business.
A federal court jury in Philadelphia found 59-year-old Jonathan Wiktorchik of Southampton guilty of arson and other offenses. Prosecutors say he burned down the Mountainview Plaza, at Routes 563 and 412 in Nockamixon, destroying five businesses, including the chiropractic office he shared with his wife. They say he lit the gasoline-fueled fire to collect insurance money because his business was failing. He initially told investigators he was on a camping trip at the time of the fire in March of 2008, and he blamed it on gang members. About two months before the fire he lost his license to practice after pleading guilty to insurance fraud for billing Blue Cross $90,000 for more than 1,800 procedures that were never performed.
