Alleged Pill Mill Doc Faces Tax Charges
A Bucks County doctor accused of running a “pill mill,” selling diet pills without a prescription, faces new charges of tax evasion.
A federal indictment says 62-year-old Emergency Surgeon Christopher Vassalluzzo of Upper Makefield evaded paying taxes on more than $2.3 million he made selling pills. Doctor Vassalluzzo is also charged with selling prescription drugs outside a professional practice and mail fraud. The indictment says his operation went on for about a decade out of a Northeast Philadelphia weight loss center, and he evaded taxes by paying employees “under the table.” His lawyer says he hired people to run his weight loss business, much as a pharmacist hires clerks who dispense pills while he is away, and he did nothing criminal. He had a practice in Lansdale at one time.
