Fire Hits Former Montco Official’s Home
Fire Monday afternoon heavily damaged the home of former Montgomery County Commissioner Mario Mele. It was reported around noon at the home on Pinetown Road, between Susquehanna Road and Highland Avenue, In Fort Washington. It started in the basement and spread to the first and second floors before firefighters could get it under control. No one was injured, and while the cause is under investigation, it is considered accidental, and an electrical malfunction is suspected. The home is valued at nearly $1.9 million. Mario Mele served two terms as county commissioner, from 1992 until 1999.
