Guilty Plea In U Merion Murder
A Montgomery County man has admitted killing a neighbor who caught him burglarizing his home. 24-year-old William Nicolai pleaded guilty to second degree murder and other offenses in the March stabbing death of 68-year-old Richard Porter, a family friend and widower who lived alone with his dogs. Both lived on the same street in the Wayne Woods section of Upper Merion Township. After the murder, police say Nicolai stole Porter’s Chevy Tahoe and drove to the Kensington section of Philadelphia, where police stopped him after spotting a known drug dealer riding with him. He tried to drive away, dragging Officer Christopher Brennan along, but he was arrested when he crashed into another truck. He had walked away from a drug rehab halfway house the previous day.
