Kates Sworn In As E Norriton Chief
East Norriton has a new police chief.
Lieutenant Karyl Kates had been acting chief since June, when the late Chief John McGowan was killed in a motorcycle crash. Tuesday night the township supervisors officially swore her in as chief. Kates joined the force in 1992, serving as a patrol officer until 1998, when she was promoted to sergeant. She became a lieutenant in 2002, when she was responsible for budget management, purchasing, scheduling and training. She has FBI National Academy training and a master’s degree in public safety administration.
