Chief Proposes Lock Or Pay Ordinance

parking-lotUpper Moreland Police Chief Thomas Nestel wants the township commissioners to consider an ordinance allowing police to fine people who repeatedly leave their vehicle doors unlocked. He says 80 percent of thefts from vehicles involve unlocked doors.  Police would check vehicles parked on streets, and if they found one unlocked they would leave a warning note and lock the doors.  If they found the same one unlocked again within a year they would fine the owner up to $25.  They would not check cars parked on private property.
