Child’s Shooting Death Ruled Accidental
Last week’s shooting death of a four-year-old Royersford boy has been ruled a tragic accident, and criminal charges will not be filed.
First Assistant Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele says the boy pointed a handgun at his head and shot himself while playing “cops and robbers” with his six-year-old brother. Neighbors identified the victim as Michael DeSantis. He apparently climbed onto his parents’ bed last Wednesday, August 11, and took a Glock .40-caliber gun from the top dresser drawer, where his father thought it was out of the children’s reach. The mother did not know it was loaded. Steele says investigators found that charges are not warranted because no criminal acts were committed.
