High Tech Upgrades for Traffic Lights in Lansdale
Lansdale officials want to bring the traffic lights of the borough into the 21st century. They've won a $216,000 state grant that will be used to replace the existing copper wire interconnecting the signals with state-of-the-art fiber optic cable. Borough officials say the new network will streamline traffic moving through Lansdale during an emergency. It will also connect borough buildings, electric substations and sewer pump stations as well as allow for live streaming video cameras out on the street.
Montco Finances Remain on the Mend
The Montgomery County Commissioners say their finances continue to move in the right direction. They received a report yesterday that projects a $2,600,000 operating surplus at the end of this year. Chief Financial Officer Uri Monson also told them almost $846,000 was transferred into the employee pension fund last month. Expenses for this year are generally in line with the 2013 budget but going forward the potential exists for several hundred thousand dollars in revenue shortfalls because of the federal sequester.
