A high-tech company based in Blue Bell has launched a new web-based service to help parents protect their kids from internet predators. Proactive Parenting Network CEO Bill Thompson of Worcester says it’s a monitoring service that uses streaming through processors to alert parents about internet conversations of concern, but notifying school officials or law enforcement is up to them.

“In the case of cyberbullying, let’s say their kid is on the receiving end of being bullied, then the parent has to make a decision at that point to contact local law enforcement.  If it’s being done through a school channel they have to go out and meet with the school officials, and they’ve got to start the conflict resolution process to avoid future problems.”

Thompson says parents should not under any circumstances contact a cyberbullying child or that child’s parents.  They must work with law enforcement or the schools.  He says the Proactive Parenting Network is not trying to replace parents.  It is only trying to help them develop their sixth sense about internet conversations.
