Potholes Are Here, Call 1-800-Fix-Road
“Potholes are caused when water seeps below the road surface through small cracks in the pavement, and as water repeatedly freezes and thaws, a cavity below the road forms and larger cracks develop causing the pavement to crumble, which causes the pothole.”
Metzger says motorists should call 1-800-fix-road to report potholes on state highways, and give as much information as they can about the location, including nearby landmarks and numbers from small black and white signs posted along the roadsides if possible. He says PennDot crews will fix them as soon as they can, weather permitting, but winter services remain their primary focus this time of the year. To report potholes on local roads, motorists should call the township or borough where they are located.
