The Montgomery County Health Department says the county’s first case of West Nile Virus in a human this year has been confirmed in a 30-year-old Bridgeport woman. The department is stepping up mosquito surveillance and control in the area around her home.  It also plans to spray this week in Franconia, Towamencin and Upper Dublin Townships, where tests have found the insects carrying the West Nile Virus.  Areas around the Towamencin Wastewater Treatment Plant and Bustard Road Park, as well as the Souderton and Telford Wastewater Treatment Plants in Franconia, will be sprayed Wednesday night and a barrier spray will be placed around the Souderton plant in the daytime.  Spraying will be done Thursday night around the Ambler and Delaware Drive Wastewater Treatment Plants in Upper Dublin.  The spraying will be done with low-volume equipment mounted on trucks or all-terrain vehicles, weather permitting.  The West Nile Virus is spread to people and animals by infected mosquitoes.
