P3 Orion Gets License To Move

The Horsham Land Redevelopment Authority has approved a Navy license that will allow repairs to an old P3 Orion Navy aircraft.

It’s a four-engine turboprop that has been used since the early 1960’s for marine surveillance and anti-submarine warfare.

One that is no longer in working condition has been parked for years on the Horsham Road side of the former Willow Grove Naval Air Station, and the wheels must be fixed before it can be rolled over to the Harold Pitcairn Wings of Freedom Museum on the Easton Road side of the base for public display.  The Navy requires the license and liability insurance before the repairs can be done.

Lansdale Officials Move Ahead With Community Arts Center

There was standing room only at Lansdale Borough Hall Wednesday night as a divided council approved a task force report about the future use of the old Performing Arts Center on West Main Street.   The recommendations include forming a non-profit group to operate a community arts center in the building as well as putting together a business plan for the venue.   Other details like the schedule for finishing the rennovation of the facility still remain to be determined even though there was plenty of discussion about the merits of doing the work in phases instead of getting it done all at once.   Council President Matt West as well as Council members Denton Burnell, Dan Dunigan, Mary Fuller, Steve Malagari and Mike Sobel voted to approve the task force report.   Council Vice President Paul Clemente voted no along with Council Members Rich DiGregorio and Jack Hansen.
