Lansdale’s Second Annual Founder’s Day takes place Saturday, August 25, at various locations around the borough.
Lansdale Historical Society President Dick Shearer says it features a railroad theme, and he has prepared a booklet with highlights of local railroad history.
“It has photographs and old maps and some advertisements, including one from 1931 when the line was electrified. The Reading Company, which ran it at the time, offered a round trip to Philadelphia for ten cents.”
Shearer says a diesel train from the New Hope and Ivyland Railroad will be taking people on excursion rides to the Souderton Station and back. Founder’s Day starts at 9:00am with the weekly Lansdale Farmers’ Market along Railroad Avenue, and other activities will go on for much of the day. That includes the daytime Festival of the Arts in Memorial Park and fireworks at night.
