Judge Tosses Suit Aimed At Blocking Barnes Art Collection Move
A Montgomery County judge has dismissed a last-minute effort to stop the Barnes Foundation from moving its world-renowned art collection from Lower Merion to a new Museum in Philadelphia.
Judge Stanley Ott said the plaintiff, a group known as Friends of the Barnes, had no legal standing to challenge the move. The group, which had another lawsuit tossed out three years ago, filed the new one earlier this year based on information in a movie called “The Art of the Steal,” which claimed state officials conspired to make the move happen. The judge said the movie had no new information, and the law is very clear on which parties can challenge rulings on charitable trusts, such as the Barnes Foundation.
