Car Show Draws Good Crowd

Car_Show_2011Thousands of people strolled along West Main Street in Lansdale Saturday night, looking at hundreds of cars out for the annual Under the Lights Car Show, sponsored by the Fairmount Volunteer Fire Company. Danny Hawkins of Quakertown was there with his 1930 Model A Ford Coupester.  He said he drives it everywhere.

“It’s not a shiny car, but it’s a dependable pre-war hot rod.  I drive it every day to go to the grocery store or whatever.  I try to make it here every year because I was raised in Lansdale.  What’s not to love about these cars and this gathering of people?  It’s good to see people smile and be happy.  You’re only here one time.  You can’t come back doing it.”

Hawkins said he found a lot of parts and put them all together, so his car has a Ford body, Hemi motor, Chevy transmission and Cadillac speedometer.  He called it a junkyard special, but he said it’s all steel, with no plastic.
