Washington Crossing Groundbreaking

RevsoldiersThe Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission and Friends of Washington Crossing State Park have broken ground for a major renovation project at the park Visitor Center. It marks the spot where General George Washington launched the boats that carried his troops across the Delaware River, where they marched to Trenton and took Hessian troops by surprise on Christmas Day of 1776.  Speaking at the Friday groundbreaking ceremony, Lieutenant Governor Jim Cawley reminded the crowd that it was a turning point in the American Revolution.

“In the ten days of Trenton and Princeton the course of the American Revolution shifted, and those ten days ultimately led to our success at Yorktown.  Without this site there is no United States of America.”

The renovated Washington Crossing Visitor Center will be a “green” energy-efficient building with additional space for exhibits and programs.
