Michener Museum Opens Ali, Elvis Exhibits

wnpv_arts_entertainmentTwo new photo exhibits opened over the weekend at the Michener Art Museum in Doylestown. One looks at boxer Muhammad Ali’s life and the other looks at Elvis Presley when he was 21 years old.  Chief Curator Brian Peterson says it focuses on a very short period in the singer’s life.

“It was a period of a week or two in the summer of 1956, when he was just on the cusp of his incredible stardom, so you see Elvis as a very young, almost callow, innocent fellow who is a bit wide-eyed about the whole thing, but clearly is enjoying the moment, so it’s amazing to see almost the sweetness of what he was like when he started.”

Peterson says they decided to put “Elvis at 21” together with “Muhammad Ali: The Making of an Icon” because it was an interesting pairing of two men who changed their art forms forever.  The two photo exhibits continue through May 15 at the Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, and they are sponsored by Univest.
