County Comm. Predicts Success in Same Sex Marriage Issue
Montgomery County Commissioner Chairman, Josh Shapiro says he’s not concerned about legal expenses associated with defending the county’s controversial decision to begin issuing marriage licenses to gay couples.
“There will be some kind of oral arguments in late August or early September and we’ll see where it goes. I think this is a matter that I think ultimately will have to be settled by the courts. I look for forward to seeing that resolution.”
Shapiro says, it’s a tough case, but he thinks the county can ultimately win. In July, the county began issuing licenses to same sex couples. The State, which makes no provision for gay marriage, has filed suit against Montgomery County. The County has issued more than 100 same sex marriage licenses.
