Dead Baby’s Father: Too Drunk To Care For Her
A Montgomery County man is charged with endangering the welfare of a child in connection with his baby daughter’s death.
28-year-old Edward Doyle of Upper Moreland Township could also face additional charges depending on the outcome of an autopsy on his two-month-old daughter Makayla, who died Sunday morning when he fell on top of her after tripping over a baby swing in the living room of their Horsham Road apartment.
He lived there with his wife, Nicole Lavelle, and Makayla and their 15-month-old daughter Mackenzie.
He told police he had been out drinking with a friend for about three hours, consuming six pints of beer, and then he returned to the apartment to play cards.
He said that Makayla began to cry at some point during the night while sitting in the swing, so he picked her up, cradled her in his arms and began walking toward the kitchen. That’s when he tripped and fell on top of her, and he said he should not have been caring for her because he drank too much.
He’s being held at Montgomery County Prison in lieu of $1 million bail.
