Four Charged In Elder Scam
Four Southeastern Pennsylvania men are accused of bilking more than 200 elderly people out of more than $700,000 for home-care services and insurance coverage most of them never received. The four include 52-year-old Ross Rabelow of Southampton in Bucks County, 57-year-old Thomas Muldoon of Broomall in Delaware County and two Philadelphia men. At a news conference Tuesday in Norristown, Attorney General Linda Kelly said they preyed on the most vulnerable people.
“This is a disturbing and reprehensible scheme designed to extract as much money as possible from unwitting seniors who believed they were protecting themselves against costly future home care expenses.”
Kelly said the men sold confusing contracts, mostly to widowed people living alone and many with failing health, and pushed them to pay more than $1,500 for 1,000 hours of services to be used within a year. She said the men pocketed most of the money.
