Ex Coach Admits Seeking Sex For Gifts
Archbishop Carroll High School’s former Athletic Director has admitted seeking sexual favors from a former male student in return for gifts. 39-year-old Francis Murphy (pictured here) of Bryn Mawr, who was also an assistant football coach, pleaded guilty to corruption of a minor Tuesday in Montgomery County Court. He was arrested in April outside the Frosty Falls Ice Cream Shop in Bridgeport, where he went to meet the boy. Instead he met Montgomery County Detectives who had posed as the boy on the internet. Court documents say the boy had been on the football team, but he left the school in eleventh grade for financial reasons. When he contacted Murphy via Facebook for help in getting his cleats out of the locker room, the talk quickly turned to sex, and Murphy offered the boy sneakers and other sports gear in return for an ongoing relationship. When he offered to be a Sugar Daddy the boy did not know what that meant, but when he looked it up he became angry and told his mother. She called police. Archbishop Carroll is in Radnor, in Delaware County, but just over the Montgomery County line. Murphy’s lawyers say he is truly sorry for what happened.
