Coaster Marks Anniversary, Shows Staying Power
The Community Coaster is celebrating its eighth birthday this week. The coaster is a shuttle bus serving Lower Salford and Franconia Townships and Souderton and Telford Boroughs and connecting them with the Lansdale Train Station. The Partnership Transportation Management Association runs it, and that organization’s director, Peggy Schmidt, says it has evolved over the years.
“In the beginning it basically ran from 10:00 until 2:00, and it was pretty much just a shuttle bus used by seniors to go shopping, and as time has gone on and the route has expanded greatly we’ve added some days and made some changes, and we always want to make sure that we are going to where our ridership wants to go.”
Schmidt says they review the numbers every month to see where the riders are coming from and where they are going, and they use that information when they make up new schedules. A second coaster, in the Upper Perk area, celebrates its first birthday this month.
