Report Card Issued on Public Education in Montco
A public interest group has issued a report card on the state of public education in Montgomery County. Public Citizens for Children and Youth says while the graduation rate among the 21 school districts of the county is the highest in the region only half of those starting school have access to full day kindergarten. County Commissioner Chairman Josh Shapiro joined the group for a press conference Thursday to call for the state to reinstitute a school funding formula. They said that the school districts of Montgomery County would have an additional $34,000,000 in state aid a year had the legislature not allowed the funding formula started by the Rendell Administration to sunset two years ago.
