The American Revolution Center has abandoned
plans to build a museum on a 78-acre site on Pawlings Road in Lower Providence
Township.
It’s privately owned, but within the boundaries
congress has set for Valley Forge
National Historical
Park. Executives of the nonprofit organization say
they will move the entire project to Third and Chestnut Streets in Center City
Philadelphia. The National Parks
Conservation Association and several Lower Providence
property owners filed a lawsuit, saying the museum would harm wildlife,
wetlands and historic ground. The ARC
says the litigation was hampering a fundraising drive and selecting the Center City
site gives it a fresh start.
